Presenting the Cleveland Consort of Voices

Led by Steven Plank

Singing works by Byrd, Brahms, Mouton, Palestrina, Mealor, Schutz, and Bach

The Sounds of Saint James concert series returns with The Cleveland Consort of Voices,

Sunday, September 18th at 4:00 PM at St James Church, 17514 Detroit Avenue Lakewood, Ohio.

The series was created by St. James Church Director of Music, Adam Chlebek. Adam is a

student of Jonathan Moyer, completing his Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He is a Dean's Scholarship winner and captured Second Place in the Taylor Organ Competition 2022-2023.

The Cleveland Consort of Voices is a recently formed octet under the leadership of Professor Steven Plank, Director of Oberlin's Collegium Musicum and Andrew B. Meldrum Professor in the Department of Musicology. He received the Thomas Binkley Award from Early Music America in 2009 and studied under Sir Curtis Price. Professor Plank has specialized in the relationship of liturgical spirituality and musical style.

The eight Consort members are exceptional talents drawn from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music, the Cleveland Opera, Cleveland Chamber Chorus and the St. Paul's Episcopal Choir in Cleveland Heights.

A capella singing amidst the sumptuous acoustics of St. James Church highlights the

Renaissance polyphony - one voice to one part of some of the most memorable music of William Byrd, Johannes Brahms, Jean Mouton, Giovanni da Palestrina, Paul Mealor, Heinrich Schutz and Johann Sebastian Bach. This musical experience is further enhanced by its setting within the incredible art and architecture of historic St. James Church.

Free Admission | Suggested Donation to Support the Performers: $15

Light refreshments served after the performance.

The book "Historic St. James, the Art and Architecture of a Landmark Church" will be available after the concert. This book records the inspiration, the artisans and leadership behind the design and construction of St. James Church, Lakewood, Ohio.
