Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi (800th Anniversary) - Oct. 3, 7:30

On this 800th anniversary of St Francis' death, the faithful are warmly invited to join the Poor Clares for the solemn celebration of the Transitus of St Francis of Assisi on Sat, Oct 3, 7:30pm at the Monastery of the Poor Clares, 3501 Rocky River Drive.

The Transitus is a traditional Franciscan prayer service commemorating the passing of St Francis of Assisi from this life into eternal glory on the evening of October 3, 1226. The word transitus means "passing over" or "crossing," recalling Francis' peaceful death and his final journey to the Father. During this moving liturgy, readings from Franciscan sources, hymns, prayers, and reflections invite the faithful to enter more deeply into the spirituality of the beloved saint who embraced poverty, humility, and love of Christ.

Following the Transitus service, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be celebrated, providing an opportunity for prayerful adoration and thanksgiving.

In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to venerate the sacred relics of St Francis of Assisi and St Clare of Assisi. The relics will be available for public veneration beginning at 6pm, prior to the service. This is a special occasion to seek the intercession of these great saints and to deepen our appreciation for their witness of holiness, simplicity, and devotion to Our Lord.
