St. James Giving Tree

It is time for the summer giving tree to benefit the Cleveland Catholic Charities Office of Migration and Refugee Services. Once again we will be collecting school supplies and uniforms to help the children be prepared for school. This year Cleveland Catholic Charities Office of Migration & Refugee Services are expecting to resettle about 250 refugees from across the globe. Approximately 50% will be children. Most of the refugees that are arriving in Cleveland have been in camps for 17 years or more. Almost all of the children have never experienced life outside a refugee camp.

Please keep an eye open for the giving tree starting July 28th and running until August 13th . We encourage all parishioners to take an ornament with a needed item on it; found in a basket by the Church entrances. Return the item by 10:30 am Mass on August 13th. Place the item near the tree that will be located in the Church. Hang the ornament on the tree. Please do not wrap items. Here is a list of some needed items that will be on the ornaments: New or gently used school uniform shirts-polo shirts in white, navy or light blue are highly needed. School supplies such as loose leaf paper, pens, pencils, glue, crayons, markers, calculators, scissors, etc. Also, Target gift cards are useful for shoes, clothing, etc. Please write amount on gift card. Ohio tax free weekend is Friday, August 4th through Sunday, August 6th .

Let’s fill the tree with ornaments! Volunteers will be needed to deliver items after 8:15 am Mass on August 14th. Please contact Melissa Meany at melissameany@sbcglobal.net. If anyone is interested to help organize the December giving tree, please email Melissa.
