Each Friday during Lent from 4:30-5p, in the St. James Church, people from all backgrounds are invited to enter more deeply into Jesus' journey to the Cross and to "Walk with Jesus," reflecting of how His story intersects with our own.
An ancient tradition in the Church, the Stations of the Cross are a reflective walk through a story of courage, suffering, compassion, and hope. They are a series of 14 short moments — known as Stations — that follow Jesus's journey through injustice, pain, help from strangers, loss, and a love so deep that it refuses to quit. People move from station to station and lay people volunteer to read the readings for each station, (including children with a strong reading voice, about 4th grade and above). People of all ages are welcome and invited.
You don’t need to know all the prayers beforehand or hold particular beliefs to participate. Printed guides that draw from the rich tradition of the Church and the Bible will be provided so you can follow along, walking with the group or participating from your pew.
Some people view the Stations as a meditation on how humans treat one another. Others connect them to experiences of grief, resilience, betrayal, forgiveness, or standing back up after adversity. They help us confront the hard parts of life while insisting that suffering doesn’t get the final word. At their heart, the Stations of the Cross are an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and walk alongside a story that mirrors our own struggles— and our capacity to endure with God's help — one step at a time.
Most of all, it's a story about the God who loves us -- and how nothing and no one can get in the way of that love.
Come join us and experience it for yourself. See you on February 20!
