Festival of Sacred Music - May 4th

We are delighted to announce that our Festival of Sacred Music, cancelled in February due to a snowstorm, has now been rescheduled for Sunday, May 4, at 3:00 PM!

Heaven and earth are musically aligned in this blend of sacred music, presented through the Sounds of St. James Concert Series.

You will be immersed in the beautiful sounds of the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Evangelist, the Case Western Reserve Early Music Singers, the Now Chorale of the Oberlin Conservatory and the Musica Sacra Chamber Choir. Works by master composers Bach, Palestrina, Bruckner, Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Pärt, and others will transport you through diverse musical landscapes.

Directors:

Dr. Thomas Fielding is the Director of Music for the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, and head of the Office of Worship, Diocese of Cleveland.

James Flood is a classical guitarist who has conducted numerous choirs, including at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore and St. Clement's in Lakewood, where he was Music Director for 12 years. James is also the founder and Director of the Westlake Music Academy.

Dr. Elena Bailey is Director of the Collegium Musicum in the Music Department of the College of Arts and Science at Case Western Reserve University and directs the Early Music Singers at CWRU. A specialist in early music, Dr. Bailey is also a founding member of Trobár, a small band of voices and instruments dedicated to bringing medieval music to modern audiences.

Matthew Brown is a composition major and organ minor at Oberlin Conservatory. Matthew founded the Now Chorale as a vehicle to encourage Oberlin composition students to compose choral music. The Now Chorale performs almost exclusively the works of current Oberlin composition students.

A reception with refreshments will follow. Come meet the performers! The concert is free to attend, but freewill offerings are greatly appreciated to make these concerts possible. If you love our concerts or have not yet attended one, be sure to join us for this uplifting event. All are welcome!
